Join the team

Qatar Cycling Federation runs the national team tasked with developing Qatari talent and taking it to the highest levels in the sport. It is comprised of three squads: The Development Squad contains young riders under the age of 15; the junior squad’s riders are 18 years or younger; and the final group is the senior squad.

The team is developed and assisted by an international team of coaching, mechanical and medical staff who are committed to the goals of placing a Qatari on the podium of major championships and achieving Olympic success. Our question is… Will you be one of our champions?

Kun Riyadi is our cycling-specific development pathway which has been devised in partnership with Aspire Academy and Qatar Olympic Committee. It takes a holistic approach to talent ID and athlete development, recognising the different stages and rates of development and incorporating the roles of athlete, coach and parent. Kunriyadi is fundamental to how our national team operates and is therefore essential reading by all those involved with the team, including parents and the athletes themselves. To find out more see or contact the coaching team to learn about the cycling specific pathway.

Our youngest athletes are not necessarily ready to race but have demonstrated aptitude and commitment to sport – any sport. Of course a strong interest in cycling helps. We are looking for those who shine during our junior coaching programmes; those who perform well at multisport events; those from the cycling community in whom we recognise a spark of talent; and those who approach us with a child who wants to make cycling a more serious hobby.

As a junior squad member you will either have risen through the development squad or will have shown potential by strong performances in local cycling and multisport races or have done the same in other sports. If your achievements took place outside Qatar, you’ll need to show evidence of your talent.

Senior squad members are already winning cycling or triathlon races and performing at a high level.

  • To join the national team you must be a holder of a Qatari passport. Non Qatari nationals are only considered in exceptional circumstances if they have a realistic prospect of success at a major championships and are able to contribute to the development of the national team.
  • To apply for any of the squads write to the coaching team, clearly stating why you should be considered and providing a list of results including relevant dates. Please note that, due to the many requests we receive, we will not respond to those who do not meet the eligibility criteria.
